FS2 Week 39 2012

We are all extremely proud of our children for working and playing so happily during their first full week at school.

Warm, Waterproof Clothing: Every afternoon, our FS2 Learning Environment is the Outside Area. The children will learn and play outside, whatever the weather, as long as it is safe for the children to do so. Therefore it is important for your child to be equipped each day with warm clothing, a waterproof coat with a hood, and some wellingtons. We have storage for wellies, so please leave them at school, if at all possible.

Environmental Journey: On Wednesday 3rd October we are making an environmental journey through our surrounding area to explore what we can see, feel, hear and smell. Please ensure your child has suitable waterproof, warm clothing and footwear at school.

Our school is closed on Monday 1st October for Staff Training.

Toys: Please explain to your child that we would like them to keep their toys at home, in order that they do not get lost or spoiled.

Year 1 Week 39 2012

We can’t believe that it’s Friday again and the end of another busy week.

Thank you for all the family trees, which we will use to support our topic this term which is about “Ourselves.”

In Literacy, we have carried on retelling the story of Dogger and Peace at Last, using a story map to help us remember what happens next. We are also practising our handwriting and working hard to form cursive letters.

In Numeracy, the children have been doing lots of practical activities involving one more, and one less. Our homework this week is related to the maths and the activities are in the homework books.

Reminder: The school is closed on Monday 01 October. We look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday. We hope that you have a good weekend.

School Clubs Start Date

Parents and carers, please note this change of date.

Lunch time and after school clubs will start until the 8th October due to the fact that buses aren't available until this date.

We regret any inconvenience this change may cause.

FS1 Week 39 2012

The children have had a busy week continuing to learn about their bodies and what they look like. We will be starting to look at family life, so please can you make sure that you have completed the, “All about me, “ pages (pages 3-5) in their journal, so we can talk to them about their family and likes/ dislikes?

Magic Rainbow Moments: Thank you to those parents who have returned a “magic rainbow moment” for their child to share with us, they have really enjoyed sharing their achievement with their friends. Don’t forget, you can send them in any time and if you need an extra sheet, all you need to do is ask! Keep an eye out for the new display as you enter the door!

Oktoberfest and Reunification Day: On Wednesday 3rd October, we will be having German food for snack to celebrate the German traditions. If you have anything red, black or yellow at home, then the children are welcome to come into school wearing it, so we can try to build a real life German flag!

Mark Making pages: As it is coming to the end of September, please encourage your child to complete 109 and 110 in their journal. It is a mark making page where they can draw/ paint/ write. It is worth spending the time completing the pages as they will clearly show how your child is progressing as the year goes along.

Education City Login: We have stuck, into the front of your child’s journal, their Education City Pupil ID and Password. There are lots of fun things for the children to do on there, all you have to do is log in, follow the FS1 link and away you go.

Naming clothing: Please can you make sure that all clothing, even shoes have names in. We have lots of shoes/ wellies that look exactly the same?

INSET Day: Don’t forget that school is closed for children on Monday.

Can you help us? We are hoping to extend our outdoor music area, so if you have any old pots and pans at home that you are going to throw away, please send them into us, they will be really useful.

If you have any worries or concerns, please feel free to contact us straight away, we are more than happy to help sort any problems out big or small. Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to working closely with you.

Year 6 Week 38 2012

This week, Y6 have done a fantastic job working on their WWII newspaper articles, propaganda posters and evacuee suitcases.
Our theme for this term centres on ‘Children in World War II’. Whilst looking at many aspects of the war, we are focusing our learning around the evacuation of children from the major cities of England in the build up to the Blitz.
To aid our research into this period of history we have watched a short clip from the film ‘Goodnight Mr Tom’. The children would like to watch the whole film. As it is certificated PG, we need parental permission to allow the children to watch the film. It is recommended for ages 10-12+. To streamline this process, we only require you to let us know, via your child’s journal, if you do not want your child to watch the DVD.
Homework this week has a maths focus and is in your child’s homework folder. I intend to set the first home learning project for the term next week; once we’re real WWII experts!
Schönes Wochenende!

Year 2 Week 38 2012

We have been very busy this week in Year 2!
In Literacy, we have been working hard to describe characters using lots of talk for writing.  We have thought about using interesting adjectives to describe appearance and personality. We have also been extending our sentences using connectives (and, but, because, so).
In Maths, we have been talking about numbers using the vocabulary more than, less than, greater than and equals. We have been taking great care forming numbers and have been recording our work using +, -, =.
We continued our topic work this week by looking at maps and aerial photographs of camp and the local area.  The children thoroughly enjoyed studying the maps and were able to identify lots of different places.
Reminders: Please remember to sign your child’s journal when you hear them read.  2C have PE on Tuesdays and Thursdays. 2N now have PE on Thursdays and Fridays.  Please ensure your child has their full PE kit in school.
Homework: We have added Maths homework to your child’s book.  We have also sent home spelling logs today.  Children are to practise each spelling by looking at the word, saying it, covering it over using their booklet, writing it on the paper opposite and then by checking it (Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check). Please practise these as often as possible and send them into school daily so that new words can be added when necessary.

FS1 Week 38 2012

The children have been very busy this week exploring the setting further. They have especially enjoyed getting ready to have their photographs taken and putting on their “make up” in the new Bielefeld Photo Studio.

Next week, we will begin our topic of “All about me”. If you have any family photographs that you can send in for your child to talk about then please send them in, we will return them to you at the end of the topic. Also if you have any books linked to families/ ourselves/ senses that your child would like to share please feel free to bring them in too.

Clothing: Please make sure that your child has a complete change of clothes with them every day so that we can change them after they have had lots of messy fun if needed!! (The muddy digging area is proving to be very popular at the moment. Wellies and a warm coat are also required in the setting daily, (waterproof trousers are also a good idea so your child can continue to play outside all year round).

Snack money: Thank you to those parents who have returned the baking donation and slip. If you haven’t already done so, please return as soon as possible as we would like to start cooking/ tasting activities next week and we need to know if there are any allergies in the setting.

Naming clothing: Please can you make sure that all clothing, even shoes have names in. We have lots of shoes/ wellies that look exactly the same.

Can you help us, please? We are hoping to extend our outdoor music area, so if you have any old pots and pans at home that you are going to throw away, please send them into us, they will be really useful.

Magic Rainbow Moments: In your child’s book bag, there will be a letter explaining all about Magic Rainbow Moments. This is a fun way to share what they have been learning at home with their friends in the setting. If you can attach a photo to the slip as well that would be even better. We look forward to seeing what the children have been doing at home.

If you have any worries or concerns, please feel free to contact us straight away, we are more than happy to help sort any problems out big or small.

Year 1 Week 38 2012

Another busy week in Year One has flown by!

In Literacy, the children in Miss Byron's class have been reading about Dogger and, in my class, we have been reading Peace at Last. Both classes have been retelling the story in different ways, including drama. The children have really enjoyed this work and they are developing their story book language.

The children have been given a homework book which they can use each week to complete the homework tasks. Although we will set a different homework task every week, please feel free to work with your child and be as creative as you like.

The homework this week is to make a family tree about the people and pets who live at home. The children might like to draw pictures of everyone, or they may wish to take photographs of each family member. We will use these trees next week as part of our topic work.

In Foundation Stage 2, the children were encouraged to bring toys in every Friday for Show and Tell. We would prefer it if the children did not bring toys to school, now that they are in Year One.

FS1 Week 37 2012

Welcome back to those parents who were with us last academic year and a big welcome to new parents.

The children have had an excellent start to the new term and have settled in really quickly to their surroundings. They are becoming familiar with new staff and routines and have had plenty of fun exploring new activities and areas. Well done children!

Clothing: Please make sure that your child has a complete change of clothes with them every day so that we can change them after they have had lots of messy fun if needed!! (The muddy digging area is proving to be very popular at the moment.) Wellies and a warm coat are also required in the setting daily, (waterproof trousers are also a good idea so your child can continue to play outside all year round).

Snack Money: You should have received a letter explaining about snack. Please send in your contribution as soon as possible and make sure you let us know about any allergies that your child may have. Thank you.

Naming clothing: Please can you make sure that all clothing, even shoes have names in. We have lots of shoes/ wellies that look exactly the same. We will be sending home next week a letter with a company that does iron on labels and printed name stickers which are perfect for water bottles and lunch boxes. For every order placed, FS1 will receive a £1 donation to help us buy new toys for the children in the setting.

Year 2 Week 37 2012

We have been reading ‘The Robot’ in Literacy this week.  The children have been busy retelling the story with lots of talk.  They have sequenced pictures, used story maps and recorded their own versions using time connectives to sequence their ideas.
In maths, we have been reading and writing numbers in words and figures, ordering numbers and investigating odds and evens.  We have also been counting in groups of two and are beginning to learn the two times tables.

We have begun our topic on Bielefeld by finding out what the children already know.  They were keen to talk about the places they have visited and the buildings they have seen.  Our Art focus this term is buildings and we are lucky to be joined by Mr Fidler, Bielefeld School’s resident artist!  The children worked hard this week to create their home using collage.

Please remember to sign your child’s journal when you hear them read.  We hope you have had a chance to look through the information in this year’s journals as a few changes have been made.

The photographer will be in school on Monday (17th Sept) to take class photographs.

Year 6 Week 37 2012

It’s been an action packed start to the new term here in Year 6!

This week, we have started our WWII topic and begun learning about journalistic writing.

Our first trip to Sennestadt swimming pool was a great success. The children were regrouped according to last year’s achievements and have already begun working towards their next level. Thank you to all parents who have sent in swimming money. Please could we have any outstanding money sent in as soon as possible.

Homework will start next week, once we have pupil passwords for Education City.

Have a great weekend!

Year 1 Week 37 2012

The children have all settled well in Year One and they are becoming familiar with the daily routines.

We will continue to send reading books and home/school journals home each day. The journals are checked every morning, so please use them to send us any messages and to indicate how your child coped with their reading book.

Although we are teaching the children to be careful with their belongings, a number of them have already misplaced their jumpers and cardigans. Please help us by labelling clearly items of clothing with your child’s name.

PE takes place on Thursdays and Fridays, so PE kit needs to be in school on these days.

FS2 Week 37 2012

The children have had another happy week investigating and learning in FS2.
“Who Am I?” Thank you to all children who have brought family photographs to school. These photographs will be used early next week to encourage “talk”. We would appreciate every child having a photograph to discuss, if at all possible. We promise to take care of all the photographs.
Packed Lunches & School Dinners. FS2 children will stay for a school dinner or packed lunch next week. They will leave school at 1 o’clock pm each day.
Reading Journals & Book Bags: Please send Reading Journals and Book Bags to school every day. Your child’s journal will be checked by a member of staff each morning for important messages. It would be extremely helpful if you would kindly write the title of your child’s new book inside the journal. When you have enjoyed sharing a book with your child at home, please indicate with a comment or signature. Your child may then choose a new book.
We hope you have an enjoyable weekend.

Education City

Please bear with us on Education City and Espresso home logins. We are working hard behind the scenes to reset.

Hopefully all children will have these by the end of next week.

Thank you for being patient.

Advanced Technology in Education

Some of your children may have mentioned that they have been using IPad's and IPod's in school. We are fortunate to have the opportunity to use these as additions to educational resources. It will enable the children to learn by using a range of techology. As we delevolp the use of IPad's and IPod's we will be providing details of recommended APP's suitable for home and school use.

At no point has your children been told that they have to have an IPad and nor do we recommend that they are added to letters to Santa.

Parents and carers, please be aware that we may have to close Foundation Stage 1 from Wed 05 to Fri 07 Sep. If so, we intend to re-open FS1 on Mon 10 Sep.

This is because the summer building work has been delayed and we are still awaiting the installation of some patio doors. There are currently two very large holes in the side of the FS1 building!
