Year 3 Week 20 2014

Archery Club - Year 3 On Target
Despite the rather cold summer weather we have been keeping ourselves warm in Year 3 with activities connected with sunny Greece!

The children have completed their wonderful Greek pots in their art session with Mr. Fidler and these will now go on display.

In topic we have continued using atlases to locate important places and features of Greece. We have also looked at what life in ancient Sparta and Athens was like.

In ICT we used the excellent BBC Primary History website to research the city state of Sparta.

The focus in RE this week was the theme of forgiveness using the New Testament story of ‘ The Prodigal Son‘ to illustrate this.

Decorating Greek Pots In Art

In literacy the children have really enjoyed working on a design for their own magazine cover featuring the heroic Theseus and the villainous Minotaur! We have discussed a variety of features to ‘hook’ the reader in such as captions with alliteration and using a question.

In mathematics Mr Kerray’s group have been revising multiples of 2,3,5 and10 and multiplying a 2 digit number by 10 and 100. Mr Askew’s group have worked on measuring with a number of practical activities and word problems.

Reminders:
  • Please remember a daily reading session of about 10 minutes will really help your child’s progress. Also a few questions about what
  • they have read will help aid comprehension.
  • Please return homework folders every Wednesday so that new tasks can be added.
  • Please bring in P.E kits on Monday -  these will be sent home on Fridays.
Many Thanks for your continued support! Mr. Askew and Mr. Kerray
