Year 5 Week 26 2014

Script reading, in Drama
The children will have brought home a letter today about our trip to the high ropes course in Rietberg on Monday 7th July.  It’s going to be a fun packed day full of adventure.  We are all very excited!  Please send the completed permission slip with the donation towards the total cost into school as soon as possible. Thank you!

The creative homework projects are AMAZING!  I am so impressed at the quality of work that has come into school and the different ideas that the children have had.  These projects will be show cased amongst the class before being put on display in school.
Clarinets to the ready

Thank you to all the parents for their assistance in helping the children to create such fantastic pieces of work!

In Literacy this week, the children have continued to explore the characters in Robin Hood.  They wrote some brilliant character descriptions about Robin Hood, using adventurous vocabulary to describe his physical appearance, his personality and what his interests might be.  The children have also begun to make their own comic strips retelling the story of Robin Hood.

This week in maths, the children in Mrs Pond-Barrett’s group have explored shape and symmetry; completing symmetrical shapes and patterns and making some of their own.  They have also enjoyed challenging themselves and their friends on ‘Mathletics’.  Mr Westmoreland’s maths group have been working on their individual targets for maths.

In athletics in PE, the children have worked hard to develop their reaction times and rapid accelerating needed for sprinting.  We have also been learning how to pass a relay baton at speed using a push pass and then incorporated all of these skills into relay races.

Homework
  • Literacy – Punctuation revision! - The children have some sentences from Robin Hood that has punctuation missing.  They need to add the correct punctuation to each sentence.
  • Reading – Please remember to read every day and sign the journal to acknowledge when your child reads.
Thank you for your continued support. Have a lovely (hopefully rain free!) weekend! Mrs Pond-Barrett
