Year 4 Week 37 2014

Acting out the story of Romulus and Remus
This week, we have introduced our new topic, ‘The Romans’ in both our Literacy and topic sessions.

We have found out about different Roman Gods and researched their chosen God or Goddess using texts and the internet, finding out lots of information about their characteristics.

We have started to look at different Roman myths and legends.  The children have also begun to understand the chronology of the founding of Rome and the legend of Romulus and Remus.

To enable the children to understand the story, they took part in some ‘freeze frame’ and role play activities to recreate and retell the events of the legend.

A Forest Schools foray, last week
In art with Mr Fidler, the children have designed and made 3D Roman legionaries and have used them to form their own miniature army!

In Maths this week, the children have worked hard to complete some assessments in preparation for their groups next week.

The children have begun their new topic, ‘Living Things’.  They explored the Yurt with Mrs Carroll, where they read their new science poem.

Homework:
Please remember to listen to your child at least 5 times a week and record this in their journals.  You can listen to your child read any book, not necessarily their home reader.

The children have a piece of homework to complete relating to the story of Romulus and Remus.  Please can it be completed and returned to school by Thursday 18th September.

The children also need to practice their new Science poem

Thank you ! Have a great weekend! Mrs Pond-Barrett and Mrs Scannell
