Year 5/6 Week 37 2014

Cage Soccer
After a week of getting to know each other, the children in Y5/6 have launched into their learning this week. We have been delighted to see children immersing themselves in their learning and getting excited and carrying out further research at home.

Our topic for the Autumn Term is World War I &II and the children have been discovering this week how WWI began.

Literacy lessons have been lively this week with children performing poetry and devising strategies to help them commit verses to memory. Our Literacy unit for the coming weeks will be recount texts. In preparation for this, children have written a diary account to show us what they already know about ‘the day an alien came to school’

The focus of maths this week has been place value and children have been ordering enormous numbers and rounding.

Homework:

English: Each class has a poem to learn by heart in preparation for presenting it to the class without using the words.

Maths: Children complete a maths activity page to consolidate their week’s learning.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend!
