Year 5/6 Week 38 2014

Researching Famous Scientist
And Presenting The Outcomes In Creative Ways
Another great week of learning draws to a close in Y5/6 and we hope the weather holds so that you can all relax and enjoy this lovely sunshine at the weekend.

Our topic work is well and truly underway and children have been fascinated by discovering facts about WW1. If you would like to carry out further research with your child at home, we recommend:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/ww1/

If children would like to research this safely and independently, we recommend they use their Espresso log in as well as: http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/0/ww1/

In Literacy, children have been using Anne Frank’s diary as a model for writing their own diary entries. They have all learnt an extract from the text which they will modify and imitate over the coming weeks.

Children have presented the poems that they learnt at home last week and received lots of positive feedback from their peers.

In Maths, Miss Graham’s group have been working with positive and negative integers, Mrs Hood’s group have been rounding numbers and Miss Kinsey’s group have been working with enormous numbers and devising strategies to secure multiplication facts and their corresponding divisions.

In Computing, children are familiarising themselves with using Microsoft Excel, which they will use to help them solve mathematical problems in the coming weeks.

Please can all Y5 children bring their pyjamas as well as their swimming kit into school next week.

Homework: All classes have a Maths activity page and a piece of English homework in their folders to complete and hand in by Wednesday.
