Year 4 Week 42 2014

Year 4's Harvest Festival Assembly - Today!
We hope that you enjoyed our Harvest assembly this morning.  The children have worked hard during the week rehearsing and the hard work definitely paid off today!

In Science this week, the children worked in the Forest Schools area, planting the plants that they brought in.  They also explored the environment looking at possible habitats for different kinds of creatures, bugs and creepy crawlies!

Forest Schools - Trees
We have been having fun in PE, developing the skills and techniques involved in the hockey.  We have been refining our push passing and hitting of the ball, our dribbling skills and have begun to put these into practice during simple team games.

In Maths this week, the children in Mrs Pond-Barrett’s group have been finding fractions of amounts.  They did this practically using cubes and fraction strips to begin with, before using division facts to find fractions of different amounts.  We have also begun to look at telling the time to the minute on both analogue and digital clocks, and also converting times between the two.

Mrs Scannell’s group have been working hard to learn their 3 times table.  They did this practically with cubes and number lines to support their ability to recall the times tables facts quickly.

Homework – Please see homework folders.

  • Creative Homework – The children need to make a Roman shield to use during our drama sessions as part of our Topic on the Romans.  This is to be worked on during the next 2 weeks.  Please see the information sheet in the homework folders.
  • Mrs Pond-Barrett’s group – The children have a fractions activity to complete.  They should use their knowledge of times table and division facts to find the fractions of different amounts.
  • Mrs Scannell’s group – The children have a times table quiz to complete.  This is revision work relating to the times tables that they have been learning throughout the week.

A reminder…
Autumn is here! – Winter is coming! - The weather has cooled quite considerably this week. It looks like autumn is well and truly here, which means winter is just around the corner.

With this in mind, can you ensure that your children are wearing a coat to school.  Many children are coming to school without coats and are therefore outside at break-time and lunchtime without something warm to wear.

Please can you all ensure that your children have suitable clothing to wear for their PE lessons, which weather permitting will be outside.

Thank you for your support in these matters. Have a lovely weekend! Mrs Pond-Barrett and Mrs Scannell
