Year 5/6 Week 41 2014

Last week's drop in
Many thanks to all the parents who came to the drop-in session last week. It was lovely to see so many of you and thank you for your positive feedback. We know the children really enjoyed having you in.

In English this week, the children wrote their letters ‘from the trenches’ and we will now be moving on to a new unit of work, looking at how characters are handled in narrative texts. Each class will be using different books and stories to base this work on.

Miss Kinsey’s class have been developing their reading skills through reading an extract of Friend or Foe by Michael Morpurgo. They have been empathising with characters in books, predicting what might happen next and visualising. It would be lovely if the children could use these skills when they read at home over the coming weeks.

In maths this week Miss Graham’s group have worked hard to refine their use of a written method for long division and homework this week is linked to this. Mrs Hood’s group have been multiplying and dividing by 10 and learning the 6 and 9 times table and Miss Kinsey’s group have been using the grid method of multiplication to help them to investigate the outcomes of multiplying odd and even numbers.

Small reminder: Y4 will be leading a harvest assembly on Friday next week and so if you have any food donations you can make, they will be gratefully received. Through a local German charity, the donations will be distributed as food parcels to those in need.

Message for Y6 only: please bring outdoor clothing for your Science lesson on Wednesday.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend,

Miss Graham & Mrs Creighton
Mrs Hood & Mrs Goddard
Miss Kinsey & Mr Titley
