Years 5/6 Week 03 2015

Mental Maths Test, This Morning
This week has been a very exciting week in Y5/6 as we have started a new topic on suspense. We began our topic in the cellar; an experience we are sure the children will remember to support them in their writing. Children have been developing text maps independently based on the story Zelda Claws and will bring these home at the weekend to share with you.

The children have shared their prior knowledge of the Ancient Egyptians and have been putting Egypt in context by locating it on time lines, in atlases and on the globe.

In Maths this week Miss Kinsey’s class have been dividing using a number line and adding and subtracting 6-digit numbers. Miss. Graham’s class have had ‘big’ maths this week, they were exploring quadrilaterals and their properties making giant shapes in the school hall. Later in the week, they built upon this solving missing angle problems in a range of shapes. Mrs Hood’s class have been using their knowledge of place value to solve addition and subtraction problems of 4-digit numbers.

This week we say goodbye to two children, we all wish them the very best of luck in their new school. We would also like to welcome a newcomer to Y5/6 and thank those children who have helped her to settle in well

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Graham & Mrs Creighton
Mrs Hood & Mrs Goddard
Miss Kinsey & Mrs Grant
