Year 4 Week 06 2015

Measuring temperatures in Science
Year 4 certainly made a splash this week when they started their swimming lessons on Thursday.  We were all very proud of the effort and determination shown by the children, especially as some of the children had not been swimming before.  Well done!

In Literacy this week, we have continued with our work on report writing.  The children have been writing a report in sections based on one of the characters from ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ winning a Golden Ticket.

We have looked at indirect and direct speech and the children have had a lot of fun thinking of quotes for their character.

In Maths this week, Mrs Pond-Barrett’s group have been developing mental multiplication and division strategies.  The children have demonstrated that they are able to multiply and divide by four, five and ten by using the correct doubling and halving strategy for each number.

Mrs Scannell’s group have been adding pairs of 2 and 3-digit numbers using partitioning. The children have shown real drive and enthusiasm in their work this week which has been fantastic to see.

  • Maths – Mrs Pond-Barrett’s group have an activity based on the work they have covered in their lessons this week.  Mrs Scannell’s group have questions relating to the partitioning work they covered this week.
  • Reading – Please listen to your child read at least 5 times a week and record any reading that they do in their journals.
  • Music – The piece of music that the children are working on in their guitar lessons was sent home this week.  The children should practise this regularly a home before next week’s guitar lesson.

Thank you for your continued support. Have a great weekend!
