The ‘Food Faces’ are great! We have had a range of faces that have been made in such creative ways using many different ingredients, they look fantastic! – Thank you! The children continue to amaze us with just how quickly they are learning the different skills involved when learning to play the guitar. This week, we have been learning to play a piece of music by Antonin Dvorak, ‘New World Symphony’, and the children have brought home the music notation to practice at home. Please continue to encourage your child to practice playing their guitar each day for 10-15 minutes. In Literacy this week, the children completed a ‘Cold Write’ (‘Have a go’) piece of writing in preparation for our next unit of work, which is descriptive writing with a focus on settings. The children have also completed a reading assessment. In Maths the children have been learning about angles. They compared angles and recognised which were right angles and which were more or less than a right angle. The children identified different angles and sorted them into 3 sets: right angle, acute and obtuse angles. Some children then went on to ordering angles from smallest to largest and then checked their estimates by measuring angles using a protractor. During our Topic session, we have begun to look at the ancient Maya Civilisation. We talked about what we already knew about the Maya people and identified questions about the Maya that we would like to find the answers to. We then discovered where the Maya people lived and we used an atlas to find countries that are in that area today and talked about how these countries did not exist when the Ancient Maya were alive. The children worked hard to identify and locate the countries of Central America on their own map outline.
Homework Maths – Some children have an angles activity to complete, where they need to identify acute, right and obtuse angles in different polygons. Some children have an activity to complete where they need to identify parallel and perpendicular lines in relation to other given lines. All the children have an angles game to play on www.activelearnprimary.co.uk called ‘Reel It In’. Maths homework needs to be completed and returned to school no later than Thursday 5th March. Reading – Please continue to listen to your child read at least 5 times a week and record any reading that they do in their journals. Spellings – Children will bring home a new list of spelling words to learn on Monday. Thank you for your continued support. Mrs Pond-Barrett and Mrs Scannell
