Year 5/6 Week 10 2015

Dear Parents,

The children have had a fantastic week exploring many different stories in celebration of World Book Day. These include their own stories written with support from famous authors, using the World Book Day website: www.worldbookday.com.

The children have also made their own bookmarks; have written giant postcards and re-designed front covers of their favourite books. We have also discovered how the author, Michael Morpurgo, gets inspiration for his stories and characters.

The children were also set the challenge of reading a picture book to a Year 2 pupil. The children selected the books and rehearsed creative ways of telling the story in order to make the experience engaging to the listener. The Year 5 and 6 children were as delighted to be reading the stories as the Year 2 children were to hear them. There were some truly fantastic performances!

In Art this week we have been creating ‘Giant Art’ taking inspiration from the Roald Dahl books we have been looking at. Everyone has worked exceptionally hard, in a detailed and caring manner – even Miss Graham and Mrs Creighton have contributed! Keep an eye out in the library for the finished pieces.

We look forward to the return of our Year 6 skiers, who have been having a fantastic time in Austria.

Have a great weekend and thank you for your continued support,

Miss Graham & Mrs Creighton
