Year 5/6 Week 11 2015

This week has been a very long week for those children who were involved in the ski trip last week and I am sure they will be looking forward to a well-deserved rest this weekend.

We have been looking at discursive writing in ‘Talk for Writing’ this week and children have been learning the sentence structures associated with this text type. We have been looking at connectives/conjunctions and their important role in linking ideas. We have learnt all of the actions for the main connectives that we will use. In order to support our discursive writing all children in Y5/6 have begun to create their own text map of the model text. Over the weekend the children are asked to complete and rehearse their text map.

In maths with Miss Kinsey, children have been learning about ratio and proportion and applying this knowledge to problem solving situations. Mrs Hood’s group have continued to explore shape, revisiting work previously completed in order to see our progress. Mrs Scannell’s group have been multiplying 2 digit numbers by 3 and 4 digit numbers using the grid method. They have also been dividing 3 and 4 digit numbers by 1 digit numbers using the short division method.

Thank you for your support and generosity with Comic Relief. The children enjoyed taking part in activities led by Miss Mead and the school council.

We hope that you have a lovely weekend,
