Year 1 Week 15 2015

Welcome back! We hope that you all had an enjoyable holiday.

In Literacy we have been enjoying poems written by Pie Corbett. We innovated a rhyming poem called “Marbo the Monster”. Our task was to think of different rhyming words that begun with the same letter sound. Each class thoroughly enjoyed sharing their innovated, “nonsense” poems. The children have also talked about some features of contrasting poems.

In Mathematics the children have been finding 2 digit numbers on a 100 square, then making each 2 digit number using 10p and 1p, 2p, and 5p coins. The children have also used 100 squares and bead strings to show 10 more/10 less than a 2 digit number, as well as 1 more/1 less than a 2 digit number.

Phonics – Thank you to all parents who have been helping their children to blend, then read, words that were sent home. This week, every child has been assessed in Phonics. We will use this information to “target teach” graphemes for groups of children, in order to meet their needs. Please continue to practise blending a few words with you child on a regular basis.

Thank you for your continued support.
