Year 1 Week19 2015

In Literacy we have been looking at newspapers. We had great fun on Monday pretending to be news reporters at the tier park. We focused on the 5 “W’s” – who, what, when, why and where. We have also identified the different features of a newspaper and their purpose. The children then had a go at creating their own headlines. Miss Caunter’s favourite was MISS CAUNTER THREATENS TO FEED YEAR ONE TO THE LYNX (I guess it just shows you can’t trust everything you read in a newspaper!)

In Mathematics the children have been measuring the weight of different objects using balance scales and comparing the capacities of different sized items. We found out that just because something looks bigger it doesn’t always mean that it is heavier!

Forest Schools this week Y1C had a go at climbing trees. We learnt that we must only ever climb a tree if a grown up is with us in case we get stuck or hurt ourselves. Mrs Carroll and I were really pleased to see all children trying even when they were feeling a bit scared! Y1H had a go at leaf rubbing and identifying all the different types of trees by just looking at their leaves. A reminder Please checks your child every Tuesday for ticks, just in case.

Final Note- Now that the weather is warmer please send your child in with a water bottle and sunhat and if possible please put sun cream on your child before coming into school.

Thank you for your continued support,
