Year 5 Week 18 2015

In English, we have continued our work on narrative writing, developing the warning story we started last week. We constructed a ‘tool kit’ to support us to write both a powerful opening to our story as well as another ‘tool kit’ to help us to write a description of our setting. We have focused this week on relative clauses and powerful verbs.

In maths, Mrs Scannell’s group have been finding change and calculating the difference between two amounts by counting up.  The children have also developed their problem solving skills through solving multi-step word problems. Mrs Hood’s group have concentrated on multiplying  decimal numbers by 10 and 100.

In forest school, the children have made natural artwork using their newly acquired knotting and weaving skills.

Unless otherwise stated, all homework should be completed and returned to school by the following Wednesday.

The children should read the First News article and complete the associated questions.

Both groups should complete the challenges set in their homework books.

The spelling list was sent home on Tuesday after the spelling lesson.  Spelling homework should be completed and returned on Monday.

The children should continue to read at least 5 times a week and record this in their journal. We encourage the children to read a wide range of texts, including non-fiction and fiction books.  Two smile points will be awarded each week for children who read 5 or more times a week and record it in their journal.

Thank you for your continued support.
Have a great weekend!

Mrs Scannell, Miss Graham and Mrs Hood
Mrs Grant and Mrs Porter.
