Year 5 Week 20 2015

In English, we have spent the week improving our paragraph writing and preparing to write our ‘hot piece’ which finishes off our ‘Warning Story’ unit. The children have needed to think about lots of descriptive devices, such as using adverbial phrases and relative clauses to add detail.

In maths, Mrs Scannell’s group have been working with decimals, looking at how to compare and order them, how to place decimals on a number line and also how to solve problems involving decimals. Mrs Hood’s group have been exploring time this week, particularly looking at telling the time using both analogue and digital clocks. They have also been working out time intervals to the next o'clock.

In music all the groups: cornets, clarinets and violins have been working hard this week to show that practice = improvement! Keep it up.

Unless otherwise stated, all homework should be completed and returned to school by the following Wednesday.

The children should complete the handwriting practice provided and ensure they read as much as possible over the holiday.

Mrs Scannell’s group should sharpen their mental maths skills on Mathletics and Education City Live over the holiday both log-ins are in their journals). Mrs Hood’s group should complete their usual maths homework and access some time activities on Active Learn.

Spellings homework for the holiday is to revise all the spellings we have covered so far and we have discussed a range of strategies for learning them. There will be a test on the first Monday back testing a random selection of the spellings. Whilst there is nothing to be handed in, spelling folders should be returned on Monday.

Reading Keep up the variety of reading that’s going on and don’t forget to fill in your journal!

Thank you for your continued support.
Have a great half term holiday!
