Year 6 Week 17 2015

This week children have undergone mock tests in Y6- experiencing test conditions in the actual rooms that they will take their tests and supported by the adults who will be there on the day to put them at ease and give them a feel of the day.

Maths this week has very much been ‘on demand’ revising areas that children feel that they need additional support. We have focused on fractions, decimals and percentages, time problems and measure as well as securing written methods and checking work independently. Maths homework this week is a reflection of their learning. I have pushed out a range of activities on the ActiveLearn platform and children can choose the activities most pertinent to their learning. They also have Target Question books that they should be busily completing to support them.

Mrs Mason was thrilled by the work of Miss Kinsey’s English group who wrote some fantastic news reports about a blaze at Bielefeld School (caused by a pupil who was anxious about SATS and set the SATs papers on fire!)
We have now moved towards work focused on our class novel ‘Stig of the Dump’ and the children have been writing letters in character as Barney exploring his many adventures!

Mrs Hood’s English class have been exploring poetry this week and the children have begun writing their own master pieces! The children were inspird by the birds, nests and eggs in Mrs Carroll’s room.

Many thanks for your continued support,

Mrs Hood, Miss Kinsey and Miss Graham
