Year 1 week 22 2015

In Literacy we have been innovating the story of the Bog Baby. The children changed the character and setting, they then wrote some fantastic descriptions. We were happy to see lots of similes and adjectives being used.

In Mathematics the children have been looking at odds and even numbers and recognising different number patterns when counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s. They have also had a go at multiplying numbers by grouping objects, the children were able to see how counting in 2’s,5’s and 10’s can help us to solve simple multiplication problems.

Forest Schools:
Pond dipping
Investigating what creatures live in the pond water.
This week we went pond dipping! Mrs Carroll helped us to use a net to fish out different things from the pond just as Chrissy and her sister did in the story ‘The Bog Baby’. Unfortunately we didn't catch any bog babies however we did find lots of interesting bugs in the pond to look at through magnifying jars.

We have started looking at the topic ‘Water, Water everywhere’. The children have looked at sea sides in the UK and compared common features. They discussed what part of the year is the best to go to the beach and why.

This week the children started to practise for sports day. It was good to see them working together in their teams and cheering each other on like true sports men and women!

Final Note-. Now that the weather is sunny and warm (fingers crossed it stays this way) please send your child into school wearing sun cream, with a sun hat and a bottle of water. Next week the children will be participating in their phonics test from Wednesday till Friday. Please continue to practise reading the words sent home with the children.

Thank you for your continued support,
