Head Teacher's Message - 15 Jan 16

This week, we launched our theme for the term. During one Assembly, each class brought in a question or an artefact, as a clue to the work that the children would be carrying out over the next few weeks. The overarching theme is called “Beyond ...”

FS1 will be investigating what happens outside of school. FS2 will be exploring the World of Story and Year 1 will be wondering what the Queen does during the day. Year 2 want to find out how the Fire of London happened.

Year 3 sent some “penguins” to the Assembly who asked the classes for help in getting home!  Year 4 opened a special box containing a piece of lava and Year 5 brought in a telescope!  Finally, in Year 6, the children will learn more about life in the Chang Dynasty. They will begin their research by looking at images of ancient artefacts.

We will upload our new curriculum maps to the school website (curriculum page) for you to view shortly.

We have also put our children into teams (Red, Blue, Yellow or Green). Please ask your child if they can remember which team they are in. Don’t worry if they have forgotten, as we will continue to talk about the idea.

Each team will be collecting the points gained in Accelerated Reader, as well as other challenges and competitions. For example, Mrs. Carroll will be asking the children a science related question each week. Children have been asked to write their answers on coloured sheets, so that they can be added to their team’s points.

As a school, we will be taking part in the NSPCC Number Day on 5th February, as championed by Ant and Dec. We will be sending home quizzes that you can get involved in, alongside your children, to help raise money for the NSPCC.

If you like catchphrases, for example, you will love our cryptic quiz for parents and carers, which is coming soon. The quizzes will cost 1 Euro to enter and there will be a range of prizes.

Also, our children will also have an opportunity to dress up in something number related. It might be a football shirt, a cap or something even more creative. More details will follow nearer the time!

Diary dates for this term, for you to cut out and keep, are in the weekly newsletter sent home by email. If you are not receiving your copy of our newsletter, please contact the office staff. Public dates are recorded on the website Calendar.

Have a good weekend,

Mrs. Mason
