Welcome to the section of the website where you can find out more about the school’s governors and their work.
Bielefeld School is supported by a School Governance Committee (SGC). The SGC fulfils a similar role to that carried out by school governors in the UK.

Governor Categories

There are several categories of governor that are appointed by different groups with an interest in the school. We have a number of military representatives, MOD schools representatives, parents, carers and staff. All governors have equal status.

If you are interested in joining the SGC, please contact Mrs. Reeves using the email link below.

The Commitment

The work commitment, in terms of time, is really very small. However, the rewards - in terms of the satisfaction of doing a worthwhile job -could be considerable. Employees are able to take paid time off from work to attend SGC meetings.  No prior knowledge or experience is required, just an interest in Bielefeld School.

The SGC's Role

The SGC's main role is to support the Head Teacher and staff. The phrase, often used to describe the role, is ‘a critical friend’. The SGC helps to set and reach targets, as well as supporting staff to strive for excellence across the whole spectrum of school life.

Key Documents

The key documents are the School Improvement Plan (SIP) and the Self Evaluation Form (SEF). The SIP sets out a strategic plan for the school, with targets that everyone works towards. The SEF sets out how well the school is doing and where it aims to make improvements.

Main Functions

The main functions of the SGC are:
  • To provide a strategic view - by helping to set, and keep under review, the broad framework within which the Head Teacher and staff should run the school.
  • To act as a 'critical friend' - by giving support, advice and information - drawing on members' knowledge and experience.
  • To ensure accountability - by discussing and questioning matters such as the school's performance and contributing to its effectiveness.

The full SGC meets at least once every term. It also has sub-committees, or working groups, to look at particular issues. Sub-committees meet between full SGC meetings.
